A Fort Morgan Visit (The Actual Fort)

A visit to Fort Morgan (the area) is simply not complete without a visit to Fort Morgan (the fort). So, my crew loaded up and headed three miles due west from Reel Serenity and toured the historic site. Be aware that it is not free. I paid an entry fee of $18 for my family of four. But, it was well worth it. Instead of me writing a whole lot about the experience, I'll let pictures tell most of the story.

The first thing you run into on the property is a museum. It is small, but contains some amazing artifacts found at the Fort.

After a swing through the museum, we started hiking through the Fort. And I say "hike" because it is not a small area ... nor is it on a single floor. Better bring your big-boy sneakers for this visit.

For the most part, you are free to explore the entire Fort ... at your own risk.

Although the outside of the Fort was impressive, the inside rooms, hallways, bunkers and ammunition stores were our favorite part of the visit.

Once you reach the top of the fort, there are stunning views of the pass, as well as some awesome native flowers.

In all, Fort Morgan is awesome. We plan on going back during one of the many Living History Tours they offer in July, or in August for the Commemoration of the 1864 Battle of Mobile Bay. For a full listing of events, visit: http://fort-morgan.org/calendar-events/
